Installation Instructions

LOUISIANA GUARD DOG

  • Step 1. Insert the Receiver Hitch Base, Fig. B into the truck receiver Fig. A. Lower the truck tailgate to determine which receiver pinhole, Fig. E, to use. The nearer the Pivot Arm, Fig. C to the tailgate, the better.

  • Step 2. Insert the Receiver Lock Pin, Fig. D into Fig. A and Fig. E and lock securely.

  • Step 3. Insert the Coupler Pivot Arm, Fig. C into Receiver Hitch, Fig. B. Turn the Pivot Arm until the Copuler Head, Fig. F is parallel with the tailgate. Lower the Pivot Arm until it drops below the tailgate. Caution! Be careful of your hands and fingers when in the lowering process.

  • Step 4. Slide the ramps underneath the A.T.V. between the tires. Your A.T.V. must have a 2" ball on the Axle Hitch Plate. When securing the nut on the 2" ball, make sure it is tight. Flatten the threads by tapping on them with a hammer making it difficult to remove the nut for security purposes.

  • Step 5. Raise the Coupler Pivot Arm, Fig. C until it makes contact with the stop at the bottom of the pivot pipe, Fig. L. Turn the arm 90 degrees until it is in line with the ball on the A.T.V. Lower the coupler, Fig. F onto the A.T.V. ball. Close the latch on top of the coupler. Make sure the coupler latches onto the ball securely. If the pivot arm will not raise high enough to pivot and clear the ball, pull the coupler pivot pin, Fig. G. This gives an extra 3" clearance. Use the Hitch Lock, Fig. K, to lock the coupler. This will help to defer the theft of your A.T.V.

  • Step 6. Tighten the Slack Bolt, Fig. H, until it is snug. This is only a spacer and it is not necesary that it stay tight. Keep grease on the threads.

  • Step 7. Tighten the pivot arm lock bolt, Fig. J as tightly as possible. Keep grease on threads.

  • Step 8. You can use the receiver and ball from your truck hitch to insert into Fig. I, for towing a trailer. The hitch has a rating of 250 lb. tongue weight, and 2,000 lb. towing cap.
WARNING: Remove the Louisiana Guard-dog when not in use. Failure to do so may cause damage or injury to your vehicle.

NOTE: The Receiver Lock Pin and the Coupler Hitch Lock are sold separately!
